THE NORTHMAN Red Band Trailer Amps Up the Viking Bloodshed!

By: John M Jerva

Ahead of its release this Friday, Focus Features has just unleashed a final trailer for its Viking revenge saga The Northman. This latest tease is a little bit different than the others in that it’s a Red Band trailer that gloriously shows off the carnage and bloody action set pieces viewers are in for this weekend. The trailer is shorter than the others but there is no shortage of bad ass killings including throat slits and one massive headbutt.

We all knew that this one was going to earn its R rating and this one looks to take over Schwarzenegger’s Conan The Barbarian in terms of its epic scale, sweeping visuals and numerous visceral, blood soaked battle sequences. Check out the sneak preview below!

Set in Iceland at the of the 10th Century, The Northman is “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.”

The Northman is based on a Scandanavian legend that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet and also boasts an all-star cast including Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and Anya Taylor-Joy. Eggers also co-wrote the script along with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón.

Alexander Skarsgård is in fantastic shape here as he plays a Viking prince who is exiled after his father is killed leading him to go on one massive quest of vengeance that features enough blood and dismemberment to satisfy all bloodthirsty crowds. There’s no denying the Schwarzenegger’s Conan the Barbarian vibe with this one and it certainly looks like it won’t shy away from showcasing the violent set pieces so if you’re squeamish at all, you’d probably do yourself a favor and boycott this one. As for me, this one’s right in my wheelhouse.

“Conquer Your Fate” as The Northman will slice its way into theaters on April 22, 2022.
