It’s Roadhouse meets Kickboxer with Frank Grillo and Scott Adkins teaming up for the underground fight thriller Lights Out. Now I’m sure that there’ll be a lot of bone crunching fisticuffs in store for genre fans but we’ll also get plenty of firepower as well from the looks of it and there’s nothing greater than a perfect merging of my two favorite F words.
The film is now in production and Adkins has shared some serious kick ass BTS action on Instagram. The above cover image is from Triple Threat but I’ll switch that up once there’s some official images from this upcoming actioner. Check out the action star go full tactical below!
“Having a blast on the set of Lights Out,”Adkins stated in the post showing him unloading with an assault rifle. You can also clearly hear him yell at Grillo’s character to get out as he sprays some cover fire in the first look footage of filming. Bullets, fists and feet oh my.
The Christian Sesma (Every Last One of Them) helmed project sees action film favorite Frank Grillo teaming up with equally popular Adkins in a gritty underground fight film that is being described as Roadhouse meets Kickboxer. If that’s not a selling point then I don’t know what is. You had me at Grillo and Adkins.
Grillo who plays Michael “Duffy” Duffield and Adkins as Don “The Reaper” Richter stars along with Mekhi Phifer (Truth Be Told) and Dermot Mulroney (Section Eight, Hanna). The film is currently now in production so unfortunately, we have a little bit of a wait for this one to reach the finish line but it’s on the tippy top of my must see radar now.
Lights Out is described as a modern-day Roadhouse meets Kickboxer and takes place in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles.
A drifting ex-soldier turns underground fighter with the help of a just released ex-con, pitting him against corrupt cops and hired killers now gunning for him and all those he cares about.
I don’t know about you, but that plotline is right in my wheelhouse and here’s hoping that both Grillo and Adkins will be able to let loose their lethal and unforgiving skill set on some unfortunate baddies. To sweeten this one, Lights Out was penned by the one and only Chad Law (Daylight’s End, Section Eight) along with Garry Charles (Welcome To Acapulco).
