Here’s some good news that certainly made my wife smile today as Denzel Washington confirmed that there will be a third installment in his popular Equalizer franchise. Washington is currently promoting his latest film The Tragedy of Macbeth and while being interviewed for the site Black Film & TV and confirmed the details while speaking to Collider. Washington dropped the announcement and it’s been confirmed that director Antoine Fuqua, who helmed the previous two entries, is in active negotiations to return to the director’s chair for the hat trick.
In the interview, Washington stated, “They have written the third Equalizer, so I’m scheduled to do that. So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. I get to beat people up again. The Tragedy of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. Can’t get any better, right?”
The Equalizer films with Washington is loosely based on the popular 80’s television show and starred Washington as Robert McCall who’s is a former Marine and DIA intelligence officer. The first movie had McCall battling it out with the Russian mafia while the sequel saw him getting revenge for the murder of his close friend.
It’s also being reported that The Equalizer 3 will begin production later this year. Fuqua made it publicly known that he would love to do a third movie shortly after the sequel hit and even stated that he would like this installment to take place overseas. This will mark the fifth time that Washington and Fuqua will have collaborated with each other with the other two films being Training Day and The Magnificent Seven.
