Action megastar and heavyweight Dolph Lundgren is one busy man as he has recently wrapped filming his scenes for Aquaman 2 and is now shooting Expendables 4 in Bulgaria. Lundgren also has his directorial effort Castle Falls hitting slect theaters and VOD this Friday and this newest offering also sees him returning to the director’s chair after ten plus years.
Castle Falls was a true test of determination as production was shut down on the movie after just one day when the COVID pandemic hit back in march of 2021. Lundgren, Adkins and the rest of the cast and crew returned to filming in October of 2020 and now the movie will finally see the light of day later this week.
Lundgren is currently doing press for Castle Falls and he recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter where he not only talked about his newest project but also his iconic character of Ivan Drago who has returned once again with Sylvester Stallone’s ultimate director’s cut of Rocky IV. During the interview, Lundgren dropped some exciting news as he teased a potential spin-off for Drago over at MGM while talking about the deleted fight scene between him and Stallone in Creed II.
“I thought it was a good moment. It was also a fan moment. It was a quick little fight, and I thought it worked,” Lundgren says regarding the deleted fight. “But the director [Caple] and MGM felt that it was extraneous and that it didn’t add anything. By the way, I think there’s some talk about doing a whole spinoff on Drago with MGM. So you may get more of that.”
Now Lundgren didn’t get any more involved with details about the news but Drago is certainly popular again with the new version of Rocky IV making the rounds. I did feel that Sly’s newest treatment of Drago was a little juicier and his return in Creed II added even more weight to the argument of seeing more of him. Here’s hoping that this comes to fruition as Drago is definitely one character that deserves to be fleshed out more.
