GODZILLA vs KONG Director Adam Wingard in Line to Helm FACE/OFF Reboot (UPDATE: Winegard Confirms He’s Doing a Sequel!)

By: John M Jerva

UPDATE: A few minutes after literally writing this article, I saw on the net that Adam Wingard confirmed that he isn’t doing a reboot of the film Face/Off but he is in fact writing a sequel for the film! Wingard made the announcement on Instagram and stated: “I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OFF. t’s a perfect action movie. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL!” Now this also makes it interesting becuae if it is a sequel then there might be the possibility that both Travolta and Cage could get involved with the project. this is speculation of course but lets hope so. Check out Wingard’s post below!

(ORIGINAL POST) Like it or not, we have some news on the current plans to reboot the classic John Woo 1997 action pic Face/Off which featured John Travolta and Nicolas Cage in the wild tale of a federal agent and terrorist who not only swap identities but faces as well. Why anybody is touching this one is beyond me but like I always say, I’ll give it a shot but the original is a bona fide cult classic in any action fan’s eyes.

Reports coming out of the trades has Godzilla VS Kong director Adam Wingard in line to helm the reimagining which will, of course, feature a whole new cast. Winegard also penned the script together with his partner Simon Barrett and it will be produced by Fast and Furious franchise producer Neal Moritz.

The 1997 film was another stab by Woo to crack mainstream Hollywood with his signature Hong Kong style action which featured bullet ballets and iconic slo-mo shots of Travolta and Cage engaging in one insane action set piece after another. One classic scene even featured a carnage induced firefight played out to When You Wish Upon a Star which was a stroke of genious. Why Woo never really took off over here, I’ll never understand but I loved all his attempis including the much maligned Paycheck which starred Ben Affleck.

No other news is known at this time but expect things to rev upo with Wingard now onboard so keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come as we are your destination for everything action!

In the meantime, check out one of the memorable action sequences from Woo’s original and watch Cage and Travolta fire away with and go all out ballistic the best of them!
