There were a lot of martial arts action films released in the 90’s and when there’s a huge selection, many fall by the wayside in obscurity. There are those few titles that are so good that they rise to the top and stand the test of time to this day as true cult classic masterpieces.
One such movie is Drive which stars martial arts/action legend Mark Dacascos in a film that many deem his best ever. Drive was one of those films that was loaded with such incredible fight sequences that you forgave any shortcomings and not only was the action spot on, so was the cast.
We have some awesome news today in that the fine folks at MVD Rewind, who are responsible for putting hard to find action treasures on ably-Ray, is releasing Dacascos’ epic in its director’s cut glory in May. Not only is the film hitting Blu-Ray, it’s hitting the shelves in a pristine “High Definition (1080p) presentation of the Extended Director’s Cut in 2.35:1 aspect ratio from a brand new 4K HD scan of the original camera negative.”

Now if that wasn’t awesome enough, MVD Rewind always packs their releases with top tier special features that include never before seen behind the scenes goodies like interviews snd more. Now the announcement doesn’t mention any additions to the release yet but as soon as they do, we’ll have every single one for you.
The director’s cut of the film was never officially released here in North America but there are DVD copies that have been available on sites like eBay. I was fortunate enough to snag a copy years ago and it’s definitely worth it and you can bet that I’ll be getting this one to replace it.
Directed by action maestro James Wang, who is also best known for helming The Guyver, Drive also stars Kadeem Hardison (A Different World), the late Brittany Murphy and The Last Ship’s John Pyper-Ferguson who is definitely one of the best parts of the entire movie.
A bionic man (Mark Dacascos) from Hong Kong enlists help from a hostage (Kadeem Hardison) and a woman (Brittany Murphy) to evade villains in San Francisco.
Drive is arguably Dacascos’ most popular role, and the action star shines in the movie delivering some of his finest on screen fighting sequences ever. Watching the film is truly an exhilarating experience and it’s on that begs to be viewed multiple times.
While we wait for a more definite May launch date and special features news, watch the high-octane original trailer and a classic fight scene below and see Dacascos at his finest!
