Jon Bernthal Teases the Return of THE PUNISHER!

By: John M Jerva

Ever since Jon Bernthal first appeared as Frank Castle AKA The Punisher on the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil, he quickly became a favorite interpretation amongst fans. Bernthal was so popular as the comic book gun toting vigilante that he earned his own series on Netflix that lasted two seasons before it was unceremoniously canceled when Marvel and Netflix’s deal fizzled away.

Ever since all the shows were axed, there has been much speculation as to whether or not we will see them again in some other format but we play the waiting game to this day. Well, Bernthal has given us a big tease once again as the star mentioned that there’s always a possibility.

While being a guest on the Geek House Show, Bernthal was asked if there is still hope of a third season, Bernthal was cryptic but optimistic.

“I think with that, there’s always hope. It’s unbelievably humbling how much people responded to this version of Frank, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me. He means so much to me. He’s in my blood, my bones.”

Bernthal went on to say: “For me, it’s not really so much a question for me on whether you get the opportunity to do it or not,” he continued. “Too many people are focused on trying to get an opportunity in this business, and to me, it’s what you do with the opportunity you have. Whether we do it or not, it’s about getting it right. Doing the version that fans deserve. We’ll see. All of those decisions are made in rooms that I am not invited into [laughs]. And that’s okay with me. I’m enormously blessed to have as much work that is exciting to me, fulfilling to me. Frank’s always there as a part of me. When we get the call to go, I’ll be ready. I’ll make sure I do everything I can to make sure we do it right, or we won’t do it at all.”

Bernthal made it very clear of how much a fan he was of the character when he was cast and always has said that he would love to play Castle again. He’s definitely my favorite version of The Punisher and while I love all of the screen interpretations, Bernthal was clearly the best…well, at least in this fan’s eyes.

Let’s hope that Bernthal gets the opportunity to return to the role and the two seasons are still streaming on Netflix. Check out the full interview with Bernthal on The Geek House Show below!
