The MORTAL KOMBAT Reboot Suffers the Pandemic Delay

By: John M Jerva

At this point, I’m not sure if theaters all even be around when and if things return to normal. Normally I have been staying away from film delay stories but this one is a painful one just like Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins as I was also really looking forward to the Mortal Kombat reboot. It appears that like all other theatrical films, we gave an indefinite wait usual.

Producer Todd Garner made the unfortunate news via Twitter sighting that the movie has been pulled from its initial March 5th, 2021 release and it won’t see the light of day until cinemas are running normally. Which may be never. Read it and weep below.

This certainly does not bode well as many films have been shelved and even though some have a new date, this may all come crashing down.

The film stars a host of action talent including Jessica McNamee (THE MEG) as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Lewis Tan (WU Assassins) in an undisclosed role as well as THE RAIDstar Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

Another star of the film is Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin who will be playing th role of Liu Kang. He is best known for appearing in 2017’s Power Rangers reboot as Zack Taylor and also appeared in Wan’s Aquaman. Lin was recently interviewed for the film as well as The Ghost Bride and he mentioned the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat and stressed that director Simon McQuoidis was treating the property respectfully and is looking to make it a franchise and not just a one and done film.

Unfortunately, we won’t see any footage as Garner stated that there won’t be a trailer till there is a definite and concrete release date.
