Action phenom Jean-Paul Ly has certainly made a band for himself ever since breaking out with the massive Cambodian action hit Jailbreak and the martial arts powerhouse has been kicking it since with starring turns in Nightshooters, The Take Down, The Division and most recently I Am Vengeance: Retaliation. Ly has the moves, charisma and ferocity as he makes his way up the action star ladder and he’s got a few new projects waiting in the wings.
One such upcoming project is called ACERE which hails from writer/director Ross Peacock and though we know next to nothing about the plot, we do know that Ly is going to get down and bloody with fellow martial arts whiz Laurent Plancel with whom he also starred with in The Division and I Am Vengeance Retaliation. Even though details are scarce right now, new behind the scenes images, which Ly has shared on social media, suggests that Ly and Plancel are going to have one epic throw down. Check out the images below!
In the thriller, Ly is simply know as The Protagonist while Plancel is titled The Antagonist and from the above pics, they are both going to get bloody on this one.
ACERE is French for “Sharp” and the tag line for the pic is “sharpened to kill” so you know genre fans are in for a real fisticuffs fueled good time.
Ly is also starring in the anticipated Actioner 400 Bullets which was directed by Tom Paton who has also given us such recent gems as Black Site and Stairs which was later retitled Black Ops upon its North American release. It was also announced just recently that Ly will be starring in a sequel to Jailbreak titled tentatively Jailbreak: Round 2 which will also feature Cecep Arif Rahman and Yayan Ruhian who have been seen in The Raid films as well as the smash hit sequel John Wick 3 – Parabellum.
I had the distinct honor in interviewing Ly when Nightshooters was being released a few years back and you can check out our in-depth and exclusive chat here as we talk about his movies, doing fight choreography, training and more!
Another major film in development for Ly is the sci-fi action film Rift which sees Ly starring as “A nihilistic police officer who goes to extreme measures to protect a young boy who has the ability to tap into multi-dimensions across space and time.” That film is being directed by Hasraf Dulull so there are no shortage of anticipated projects for fans of Ly to look forward to.
Stay tuned for more 411 on this project as well as 400 Bullets, Rift and Jailbreak: Round 2 as we are your destination for everything action!
In the meantime, check out both Ly and Plancal in fine form from their short film The Division below!
