James Gunn’s Suicide Squad doesn’t officially come out until next summer but Warner Bros. must love what they see in John Cena’s character The Peacemaker as TVLine is reporting that a spin-off series has been ordered to series for HBO Max which will shed light on the character who is a “a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it,”
Better yet, Gunn will write all eight episodes and direct several of them starting with the pilot. The action-comedy will explore the origins of The Peacemaker and Cena will serve as an executive producer along with Gunn and Peter Safran who is also a producer on The Suicide Squad.
“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” Gunn stated in the article. “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”
Cena also talked about the opportunity of exploring Peacemaker on the HBO Max platform and teaming up with Gunn again and giving the fans more of the excitement.
“I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie. I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”
Production is set for early next year ahead of the August 6th release date of the Suicide Squad film so expect big things for DC next year and get ready because Peacemaker is coming!
