Stallone Announces a Special Director’s Cut of ROCKY IV to Celebrate its 35th Anniversary!

By: John M Jerva

I have a confession to make. It’s not really Earth shattering by any means but it still will probably warrant critcism from many of you out there. Alright, here it goes…Rocky IV is my favorite Rocky film. Whooooo! That felt good to get off my chest. Of course, I love all the films even number 5. I know its flawed but it still is a fun watch and the streetfight was something different. Rocky IV, however, will always be special and it introduced all of us to the greatness that is Dolph Lundgren. Dolph, who played the formidable opponent Ivan Drago is an action legend and he owes it all to this film for getting him jump started.

It’s more than that though as even though its the shortest of the series and most of the running time is a training montage but it still radiates 80’s awesomeness and to this day I still haven’t gotten over the death of Apollo Creed played with such bravado by Carl Weathers.

Well, what’s better than Rocky IV? Don’t say all the other films either. Well, its a special director’s cut of the movie which Stallone has announced will be released to celebrate its 35th anniversary and better yet, he will over see the making of the cut as well. Stallone made the announcement on social media and said that this new version will be “more soulful and the fights more impactful”. Sign me up please! I remember to this day when I saw it in the theaters and I watched it twice more and then countless times on VHS and DVD. Check out Sly’s post below!

In the post above, Sly also thanked MGM for the opprotunity to get the cut out there and for the chance to entertain. Unfortunately, we do not know how and when the cut will be delivered but my money is on special edition Blu-Ray and/or 4K. When we know more than you will know more.

In the meantime, check out the climatic boxing match from the film below for like the thousandth time!
