Really Paramount? October 22nd of 2021. That’s over a year away but unfortunately that’s how long we now have to wait as the studio along with Hasbro announced Friday that the spin-off film focused on everyone’s favorite Ninja Commando will not hit theaters until October of next year.
The news came via a press release yesterday confirming what was already known but now we have an official release date and it is over a year away now. The movie was originally supposed to hit on October 23rd if this year but Paramount delayed it a while back without a new release date.
Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film stars Henry Golding as Snake along with Andrew Koji (Warrior) as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais (The Raid, Triple Threat) as Hard Master, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as Baroness, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Takehiro Hira as Kenta and Steven Allerick (The Expanse) who is playing Snake’s father. The movie will be a soft reboot for the franchise and center on the Ninja Commando and his origins. It will focus on Snake’s search for vengeance for his father’s death as he joins a ninja clan seeking acceptance.
This film like so many others have been reshuffled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and even with theaters slowly starting to come back into existence, many studios are pushing their films as far back as possible to play it safe.
Star Henry Golding recently confirmed that the movie was as good as advertised after seeing a cut of it and said: Just saw [Snake Eyes]… Holy hell. This is the exact opposite of the cookie cutter, super people movies. Wow. You guys are in for something insane, I can’t wait for you all to get your mits on this beast. Yowzers!!!! Literally grinning from ear to ear.”
It looks like the comic books is the only was we will get our Snake-Eyes fix for now as there are some truly great filters out there featuring the iconic GI Joe character.
Who knows when we will see first footage of the movie but trust me as soon as we do, you will see it here! Keep it locked and loaded right for more to come!
