After the JUSTICE LEAGUE Win, Could a Director’s Cut of SUICIDE SQUAD Happen Next?

By: John M Jerva

This past week saw Fanboys rejoicing as Warner Bros. finally announced that the much talked about Snyder Cut of Justice League was finally going to see the light of day next year when it hits the HBO MAX streaming app. It has since been confirmed that Zack Snyder was given millions of dollars to finish post production on his version and now eager fans await 2021.

With that in mind, direction now turns to director David Ayer as he has gone on social media to say that his cut of Suicide Squad is in fact close to being completed as well and would be easy to finish. Ayer posted on Twitter the news which you can see below.

Ayer also pointed out that his version wouldn’t probably win awards but that it was far better than the version we got in theaters.

Now it’s important to note that this is all hypothetical as Ayer is just saying that a cut would be easy to complete and would include more story on June Moon AKA Enchantress who he says was heavily edited in the theatrical version.

Now with the news that Justice League is getting the full on Zack Snyder treatment doesn’t even remotely mean that Ayer will get the same treatment but if Warner Bros. wants to sell fans on their upcoming HBO Max app this would certainly be another feather in its cap to establish subscribers.

I’m on record as saying that I liked Suicide Squad and if it wasn’t for the overblown ending, I think it could have been tops so I would be curious to see Ayer’s version as he intended. Even with Jared Leto’s questionable performance as The Joker.

Only time will tell whether we will get a director’s cut of this film as well but I’m not holding my breath. James Gunn is soft rebooting that franchise with his Suicide Squad 2 so Warner might just be happy enough with redoing it all together.

It sure makes for interesting discussion and like I said, if Warner Bros. wants to add more ammo to their app this would be a win to add this with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Just saying. Stay tuned…oh and #ReleaseTheAyerCut!
