With the culmination of 22 films in Avengers: Endgame last year, all sights are now fixed on Phase 4 of the MCU and rumors have run rampant left and right. One property that is on everyone’s must see list is the reinvention of Blade with Mahershala Ali taking over the iconic role of the Daywalker from Wesley Snipes who played the role in three kick ass feature films.

Stephen Dorff played the villain Deacon Frost in the original film and had one mighty and epic showdown with Snipes at the end. Now, in a recent interview that was released on Entertainment Tonight, Dorff says that he is excited to see Ali reinvent the role of Blade and he would also love to reinvent his role of Frost for a new generation of fans.
In the article, Dorff was quoted as saying:
I definitely would love to reinvent that character because that character’s someone who really stands [the test of time]. I still talk about [him] 20-something years later. I’m still signing Deacon Frost pictures out front today, so we’ll see where it goes.
Dorff also talked about Ali taking on the role and that a reboot was a long time coming:
I saw [Mahershala Ali] after it was announced and I’m happy for him. I think he’ll do a great job with Blade and reinventing the franchise. It probably should’ve been done a while ago, but I think it’s good for him. I’m sure he’ll do it justice. To have such a great actor in the part of Blade for this new generation, it’ll be great.
Interestingly enough, Dorff mentioned that at one time there was talk of doing a Deacon Frost solo outing with original Blade Director Stephen Norrington almost teaming up with Dorff once again:
We talked about doing a Deacon Frost movie on its own at one point, me and the director of the original Blade, who is just a genius, Stephen Norrington, and it never really happened because Marvel was a new entity and Kevin Feige was kind of building this whole new universe he’s built successfully. They weren’t really interested in the dark Marvel movie but maybe after Joker and all this stuff, maybe it’ll start to be trendy.

Anyway you slice it, Dorff probably won’t be involved with the new vision of Blade but I would certainly entertain the idea as Dorff is a great character actor and having him return would pay great homage to the original set of films. Anything is possible and if it were up to me, I would sign off on it immediately but alas it is not.
Hopefully we get some definite news on Ali’s Blade in the future as this is one property I am a super fan of. Anyway, keep it locked and loaded right here for more to drop on the Daywalker’s return!
