It looks like Mark Wahlberg is going to get to be a part of the video game adaptation Uncharted after all as Variety is bringing the word that the Oscar Nominee is in final talks to join Tom Holland in the new film based on the best selling video game. Wahlberg was going to star as the lead before the film was changed to an origin story with Holland grabbing the role of a younger Nathan Drake.
Per Variety: Travis Knight (“Bumblebee”) is directing the movie that follows Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who journeys across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. Wahlberg will portray Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, as well as a friend, mentor and father figure to Drake. Holland is set to play Drake.
The game franchise first appeared in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for PlayStation and has gone on to sell over 41 million copies.
Word has it that Wahlberg still wanted to be a part of the film so it made sense to offer him the role of Sully who is an older and more seasoned mentor to Holland’s Nathan Drake.
Rafe Judkins is writing the script along with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are serving as producers through Atlas Entertainment. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will also produce.
Wahlberg is keeping busy these days besides this film as he is also starring Wonderland, a thriller for Netflix as well as Infinite for Paramount.
