NYCC 2019: Hanging Out with the Pink Ranger Herself- Amy Jo Johnson! (Exclusive Panel Photos!)

By: John M Jerva

I think I can speak for many guys out there when I say that I had a crush on Amy Jo Johnson who played the role of Kimberly AKA The Pink Ranger on the 90’s mega hit kids show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Johnson would star in over 100 episodes of the series before moving on to other things in her life but she will always have a place in the hearts of her millions of fans for her work on Power Rangers.

Johnson made a special appearance on the first day of the 2019 New York Comic Con where she spent an hour talking about her time on the show as well as working on her other most notable series Felicity and one of my personal favorites, the Canadian action-drama Flashpoint. I was able to sit in the audience for the exclusive panel with Johnson and she was as gracious as ever as she interacted with her fans and answered questions as well.

Johnson talked about how she got hired for Power Rangers and shed light on her co-stars whom she admitted she is still friend with like David Yost and martial arts superstar Jason David Frank. Johnson spoke candidly about how she couldn’t fathom how popular the show would become and she told us some humerous anecdotes about certain episodes.

One highlight of the panel was when Johnson literally took time to call her 10 year old daughter who was walking home from school at the same time. Johnson asked her if everyhting was ok and that she would see her soon. It was really a touching moment to see the love a mother has for her child.

Recently, Johnson has turned to working behind the camera as she has now directed two feature films and a few short films as well. Even though she is best known for her days as Kimberly the Pink Rannger, I have been a fan of her work on the series Flashpoint where she played Jules who was a member of an elite unit ofpolice officiers who did their best to neutralize threats.

Johnson did not disappoint and she was certainly a highlight of the first day of the Con. Check back tomorrow for more exclusives from the 2019 New York Comic Con!
