What’s new Action-Flix Fanatics! Day one of the 2019 New York Comic Con is officially in the books and me and my fearless partner Tom are safely back at home base in our hotel room but let me tell you, the first day was worth the price of admission alone as we attended the special 20th Century Fox panel on the main stage at the Javits Center in New York City. It’s funny because I was going to the panel to see The King’s Man which Fox was promoting at the same panel as well but all of us in attendence received a surprise treat as Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, made an unexpected appearance to help promote his upcoming action-comedy Free Guy which looks off the hook. Check out some exclusive details about the new film along with panel photos you’ll only see here!
It was only announced a short time before the panel that Reynolds would indeed be in attendance and I could not believe that we were in the same room with Wade Wilson himself! The film which was helmed by Shawn Levy who was also in attendance tells the creative story of a bank teller who wakes up one day to find out that he is nothing more than an NPC (Non Player Character) in a brutal and violent open-world video game titled Free City. As he pieces together his existence, he hooks up with quirky allies like Molotov Girl who is played by Jodie Comer who was on the panel. Simply named Guy, this free spirited anamoly sets out to level up and become a more powerful character in this strange world that is all to real. Guy works with his avatar cohorts to fight the makers of the video game from shutting it down once and for all.
Also in attendance at the panel were co-stars Joe Kerry (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Blindspotting). We got to see two exclusive clips from the film which showcased Reynolds and Comer interacting with one another and Taika Waititi, who helmed Thor: Ragnarok and who also stars in the film, made a special appearance via satelite.
The cast and director were laugh out loud funny and Reynolds was his usual charming and comedic shelf as he answered a few awkward questions from some in the audience.
We also got to see a behind the scenes video of the cast which was officially released on the net so check it out below!
Levy also mentioned that the film is in the early stage of editing so the footage we saw was a rough cut of what to expect. All in all, Free Guy looks kick ass and hysterical and I will surely be seeing it when it hits theaters next summer on July 3rd.
Being in the same room with Reynolds was definitely worth coming to my third NYCC in a row and it is an experience I will never forget.Check back tomorrow for some more exclusive reports from New York!
