I can almost hear the cries of my readers now as Deadline is bringing the word that Jared Padalecki, who played one half of the Winchester brothers for 15 seasons on The CW’s Supernatural, is circling a planed reboot of Chuck Norris’ iconic Walker: Texas Ranger. I have to admit, I did not see this one coming.
The series will be a reimagining of the classic action series with Padalacki taking on the lead role. Per Deadline: “Like the original series, created by Albert S. Ruddy & Leslie Greif, the reboot, in which Walker is getting a female partner, will explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground. At the center of the series is Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home. In a nod to the original series, Walker and his new partner — one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history — are the modern day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.”
Now, of course, I am a huge fan of Norris and his version but I also always reserve judgement until I see the finished product. I am also a fan of Supernatural And Padalacki so I’m giving him a shot.
The article also states that The CW is highly interested in it along with CBS who aired the original show. The CW loves Padalacki and co-star Jensen Ackles And would love to have him continue to shine on their network.
Padalacki, who is a Texas native, will also execute produce and word has it that the show will simply be called Walker. Padalacki isn’t 100% attached as if this writing but expect that to become concrete in the future.
Deadline also states that the series will be a straight up reboot and not a sequel where Padalacki would play a descendent Of Norris. CBS has had vast success with reboots as their Hawaii 5-O and Magnum P.I. Are hits for the channel so it makes sense that they would want to add this to their line up but we will have to wait and see.
As always, keep it locked and loaded right here for more to drop!
