Just yesterday, I brought the word that Ludi Lin had landed the coveted role of Liu Kang for producer James Wan’s highly anticipated re-imagining Of the iconic video game Mortal Kombat And now we have mire casting news to tell ya in that three more roles have been cast!
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mechad Brooks, who plays Jimmy Olson on Supergirl, will play the cyber-enhanced special forces operative Jackson “Jax” Briggs. Newcomer Sisi Stringer has landed the role of Mileena who is the evil, sai wielding clone of Kitana and Tadanobu Asano Of Ichi The Killer game will be our new Raiden. Asano was also one of the Warriors Three In Marvel’s Thor. The report does mention that Asano is still in talks.
The three new cast members join Joe Taslim who was announced a while back as Sub-Zero and Lin who made the news yesterday.
The production wants a diverse international cast to reflect all the markets out there and it looks like they are indeed achieving that.
Wan, who recently helmed Aquaman, is producing along with Todd Garner with commercial director Simon McQuoid making his feature film debut with this one.
The main plot is being kept under wraps but the film will most certainly keep the main plot of the video game which has elite fighters from different realms fighting for their own piece of the universe in a deadly underground tournament where the fate of all realms hang in the balance.
Mortal Kombat is set to film later this year in Australia. The film is set for release on March 5th, 2021 from New Line and Warner Bros. With casting underway, expect more announcements to drop in the near future! Keep it locked and loaded right here!!!
