Henry Golding in Talks for GI JOE: SNAKE EYES Spin-Off!

More news to hit during my vacation concerns one project that I’m keeping a close eye on and that’s Paramount and Hasbro’s GI Joe: Snake Eyes spin off film that is currently in development.

Word has it via The Hollywood Reporter that the filmmakers are looking to sign actor Henry Golding who is best known for the hit film Crazy Rich Asians. Unfortunately, Ray Park, who portrayed the black clad Ninja Commando in the previous two films will not return for the spin-off as this is an origin story detailing how the iconic Joe came to be. This would be Golding’s first leading role in a major motion picture.

The film is set to be helmed by Robert Schwentke who has also directed Red and R.I.P.D. Evan Spiliotopoulous is writing the script with Lorenzo do Bonaventura and Brian Goldner producing.

Golding is in the negotiations stage do it’s not concrete yet that he will play Snake. The film already has a release date of October 16th, 2020 and it has been reported that the film is due to commence filming later this year.

In the mythos Of GI JOE “Snake Eyes is the code name of a member of the G.I. Joe Team. He is the team’s original commando, and much of his history and information, including his real name, place of birth and service number, have remained “CLASSIFIED” throughout all depictions of his origin. All that is known for certain is his rank/grade (originally U.S. Army Sergeant/E-5,[1]eventually reaching Sergeant First Class/E-7 before it too was made “CLASSIFIED”), his primary military specialty is infantry, and his secondary military specialty is hand-to-hand combat instructor. Snake Eyes was trained at the MACV Recondo School (Nha Trang),[2] and served in LRRPs in Southeast Asia with Stalker and Storm Shadow, eventually leaving the service to study martial arts with Storm Shadow’s Arashikage ninja clan.[3] He has undergone drill sergeant training, and is a former U.S. Army Special Forces and Delta Forceoperator.[4] Very little else about his past has been revealed.” (Wikipedia)

Just like Blade, Snake Eyes is one of my most beloved characters so I am following this one close to the vest. It was also reported last week that Paramount is developing an ensemble GI Joe film as well and I’m assuming that Snake will be a part of that one as well.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for all the latest updates. Yo Joe!!!!
