New Line and Producer James Wan Reportedly Pick THE RAID’S Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero for MORTAL KOMBAT!

The first salvo has appeared to be fired as The Hollywood Reporter is bringing the word the producer James Wan and New Line Cinema have made their first casting choice for their highly anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot.

According to the site, The Raid’s Joe Taslim has been chosen to play the iconic Sub-Zero in the new film.

Per THR: “New Line’s Mortal Kombat movie has found its Sub-Zero.

Actor and martial artist Joe Taslim will be playing the superpowered fighter in the live-action adaptation of the video game.

Taslim’s is the first deal to close for Mortal Kombat, which is set to shoot in southern Australia later this year.

This bodes well for casting as it looks like the production will indeed hire actors who are true martial artists for key roles in the film. It was announced just recently that the film had sent out a casting call for all martial arts experts, fighters and stunt professionals to audition for major roles and not just extra work.

Wan is producing the reboot and veteran commercial director Simon McQuoid will makes his feature film debut with this one. No pressure at all.

The plot is being kept under wraps for now but it will most likely be true to the video game where expert warriors from different dimensions fight for their worlds in a prestigious and deadly tournament named Mortal Kombat.

The mega hit franchise did find its way to movie screens way back in 1995 when Paul W.S. Anderson helmed which was followed up with 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. The first film went on to score $122 million at the worldwide box office with its sequel not doing as well.

A reboot has been talked about for years now but it is extremely exciting to see movement on the project and the casting of Taslim. Let’s hope we get other awesome casting news in the near future and I’m hoping for my boy Scott Adkins to land a coveted role. If they’re smart, they’ll ask him.

Mortal Kombat is set for a production shoot later this year in Australia and us set for release on March 5th, 2021.

Let me hear your thoughts on who you want to see in the film and keep it locked and loaded right here and get ready to…FIGHT!!!!
