Cena Says that it is an Honor to be Added to the Blockbuster Franchise!
When Vin Diesel shared the video of himself and WWE superstar John Cena a few months back, it seemed like the wrestling and acting superstar was already a lock for the next installment of the blockbuster Fast and Furious franchise but that was not the case. Diesel was merley impling that Cena would be a rather awesome fir to be added to the series and Universal agreed when they made Cena an honorary member of the family a few eeks back.
Cena recently spoke to EW about this addition to the high-octane action series and promises fans that this will be his “absolute best” work to date and that his character will be bad ass although his character is a mystery at the time of this writing.
Upon being added to the ninth film, Cena stated, “There are countless ways to describe the upside of an opportunity like this. First and foremost, I’m a car guy, and that is what the franchise was built off of. They have a way of weaving this family narrative and making it a truly successful and globally reaching franchise. They’re also known for delivering the larger-than-life action and continue to outdo themselves, but they never shy away from story and the narrative that they’ve developed. They’re constantly redefining the franchise but not redefining the ethos. Literally, I’m surrounded by a group of people who are better than I am and such skilled people with so much experience, so what a great environment to learn from. It really is a tremendous opportunity.”
Cena had publicly stated last year in another interview with EW that he would love to star in the franchise and work alongside his former wrestling cohort Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson although it looks like The Rock will no longer be appearing in the series after a fallout with Diesel and other cast members. Johnosn is, of course, playing his character Hobbs in the spin-off film Hobbs And Shaw with Jason Statham who is reprising his role of Deckard Shaw. Never say never, but it looks like this is the only way The Rock will appear in the franchise for now.
Cena added in the interview that is was that initial conversation that got the ball rolling. “I’d like to think your interview was the one that sparked it, so I’m thankful to you. But also, I certainly owe a thanks to Vin Diesel as well. Because he sent out a social media message kind of alluding to the fact that that opportunity may be real, but at the time it certainly was not. And his message had a lot of weight and appeal to it. I guess that kind of got this avalanche of opportunity rolling, and I’m just really happy to get the chance. I give everybody who is attached to the franchise and who enjoys the franchise the promise that you will get my absolute best.”
Universal’s casting of Cena might be in some way, a replacement theory for The Rock if he will no longer be part of the initial series of films. Only those behind closed doors know for sure but Cena is certainly a welcomed addition.
Fast And Furious 9 is revving up production and is eyeing a May 22nd, 2020 release in theaters. Keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come!
