This trailer for The Awakening actually dropped last week but I was dealing with Hurricane Isaias at the time, and the subsequent aftermath so please excuse my tardiness. Now that I’m full steam (or almost) ahead, it’s time to deliver some tactical action dipped in nightmarish horror for a film that looks to be equal parts Predator and The Descent. Merging action and horror is a time-honored tradition and when done right, it can elicit the proper response from rabid fans looking for some bombastic scares rifled in with their spec ops action. Scroll below from the latest on the way from the fine folks at Well Go USA because the best of the best is about to meet something better!
Synopsis:
An elite military unit ventures into a Colombian jungle on a mission to eliminate an enemy target. What begins as a tactical operation quickly descends into a frenzied nightmare when a primeval force awakens in the darkness. Five hundred years earlier, a Spanish conquistador expedition was consumed by the same relentless curse. Separated by centuries but connected by the same hostile territory, both groups fight to survive the jungle’s curse.
An elite military unit’s operation in the Colombian jungle descends into a frenzied nightmare. Encountering primeval forces once faced by Spanish conquistadors 500 years prior, both incursions discover an ancient presence out for blood in the supernatural-horror-thriller THE AWAKENING, debuting on Digital November 10 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Director by Jaime Osorio Marquez (The Sacrifice, The Squad) and co-directed by first-time feature film director Federico Durán, and José Luis Rugeles (Rebellion); THE AWAKENING features Claudio Cataño (Pacific), Alejandro Buitrago (“Narcos”), Héctor Sánchez (Mi Bestia), Andrea Olaya (“Thousand Fangs”), Quique Sanmartín (Pepe Caceres), Jaisson Jeack (“Thousand Fangs”), Carlos Mariño (The Initiated), Andres Londono (“Narcos: Mexico”), Salvador Bridges (Adiós al amigo), and Ricardo Leguizamo (“Vampire Academy”).
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: The Awakening looks like Predator crashed into The Descent in the worst (read: best) way imaginable. If you’re someone like me who likes their spec ops, tactical action soaked in nightmare logic, then this film should check all the boxes. Anytime you have an elite team of operators slamming headfirst into a bloodthirsty force that decimated conquistadors some 500 years earlier, I’m there every day and twice on Sundays. This looks like some serious, unforgiving nightmare fuel locked “n” loaded with some bad ass battle action for optimum effect. LFG!!
THE AWAKENING – nominated as “Best Feature Film” at the 2026 Guadalajara International Film Festival – will land on Blu-ray™ and DVD exclusively through Amazon® on December 15
