He might not be Blade anymore but that isn’t stopping two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali from showing us what he would have done action wise if he did get the opportunity. Let me just say that Ali not playing the iconic Daywalker was a severe missed opportunity and he’s demonstrating that with the trailer for his intense action dram Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. Ali plays a deeply religious hitman who must utilize his very effective and very bloody skills to protect his children after his wife passes away. Witness what could have been from Ali if Marvel would have figured it out below!
From writer-director Bassam Tariq, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother stars Mahershala Ali as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman who struggles to balance work, faith and fatherhood. When his wife dies, he embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, confronting the forces closing in around him – and the beliefs threatening to unravel within.
Written and directed by Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli, Bait), Ali stars alongside John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Giancarlo Esposito. Tarig also produces with Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari and Brian O’Neill serving as executive producer.
TRAILER TACTICAL REACTION: Like I stated before and it is obvious, this will definitely be the closest thing fans get to watching Ali do Blade things and here his character prefers bladed weaponry over guns so that propels the analogy even more. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother looks most like art house fused with bloody hitman theatrics and I wouldn’t be surprised if Ali doesn’t serve up another Best Actor nod for this one. Heavy dramatic gravitas aside, the bladed action design that Ali demonstrates in the trailer look savagely efficient and exciting and this film looks like it will shed massive amounts of blood before the end credits role. While certainly more heavy-handed drama then full-on actioner, Ali’s latest looks to blend the best of both worlds for one gut ripping, visceral viewing experience. This film has my upmost attention.
