I haven’t gone Trailer Tactical for a while, so I thought I’d check out two huge trailers that hit recently. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey just dropped a colossal new look while Zack Cregger’s new take on Resident Evil, which actually hit last week but I was super busy at the time, certainly brought unease and icky feels upon viewing. Let’s take a look at both with some thoughts from the peanut gallery!
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN’S THE ODYSSEY
Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX® film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX® film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o, with Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
The Odyssey is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy. The executive producer is Thomas Hayslip.
TRAILER REACTION for The Odyssey definitely brings a much larger epic scope to the film and immerses viewers in what to expect. Nolan is one of today’s most influential filmmakers and tackling a sword and sandal film of this scale is certainly ambitious. This new trailer offers up the right amount of adventure; heavy doses of human drama and a freaking Cyclops so bring it on. Yeah, yeah, I know Toma Holland and Robert Pattinson say dad and daddy instead of father bit seriously, is this what we are nitpicking about. The cast is sensational, including a bald and brooding Jon Bernthal, and the visuals and cinematography are a chef’s kiss so in Nolan I trust. I think the film will deliver in spades and be heralded as one of the best this year so no worries on this end.
RESIDENT EVIL
From the mind of Zach Cregger, director of Weapons and Barbarian. Watch the new teaser trailer for Resident Evil. Filmed for IMAX – in cinemas September 17.
From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.

From Columbia Pictures and Constantin Films, in association with TriStar Pictures, Resident Evil hits cinemas September 17, 2026.
Cast: Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser
Directed by: Zach Cregger Written by: Zach Cregger & Shay Hatten
IN CINEMAS SEPTEMBER 17, 2026
TRAILER REACTION for Resident Evil serves up an uneasy viewing experience with a wayward protagonist who is about to have a really, and I mean, REALLY bad night. Director Zach Cregger looks to instill what made the initial video game so horrific and speaking from a fan of the bombastic Resident Evil franchise from Paul. W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich. I think this is the right course to steer the ship. It looks chilling, unflinching and claustrophobic as hell and Austin Abrams looks sensational as the man who definitely entered the wrong city. Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City looked promising but it was flawed heavily in its execution. This one looks just right, and fans of the game and mainstream ones as well might have another horror hit to sink their teeth into from a celebrated filmmaker.
