With just a little over a week until release, Samuel Goldwyn Films have officially launched the new trailer for veteran action choreographer and stunt pro Luke LaFontaine’s debut as a director and it looks like he is already a seasoned pro when it comes to helming an entire film. International martial arts action star Bren Foster headlines Mexicali, a full throttle in your face action pic that looks to stake claim as one of the best actioners of 2026. Check out the latest promo along with the new poster that radiates a Robert Rodriguez/Desperado style vibe!
Official Synopsis: An ex-special forces contractor who has retired to live a peaceful life as an avocado farmer in Mexico must fight again when local gangsters try to force him and his family off their farm.

This new look at Mexicali brings the pain when it comes to the tier one action design that fans can expect but it also focuses a little more on the human drama and emotion that envelopes the movie. Make no mistake, Foster shows off his sick, legit skills once again, but this trailer also makes you feel something in the process.
Mexicali stars Bren Foster (Life After Fighting) who is a nine-time world martial arts champion and filmmaker and one of the hottest action stars working today. His co-stars include Plutarco Haza (Narcos: Mexico), Tania Raymonde, who also starred with Foster in Deep Blue Sea 3, action star and filmmaker Louis Mandylor (The Debt Collector, Affinity) and Kris Van Damme (Kill ‘Em All) who is the son of martial arts action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Luke LaFontaine makes his feature directorial debut with this film after a decades-long career as a stunt coordinator, fight choreographer, and second-unit director. A martial arts and weapons specialist, he has worked on major productions including Iron Man, Serenity, and Master and Commander, bringing extensive action-design experience to his filmmaking.
The film is written by Jesse V. Johnson who is a British filmmaker, writer, and former stunt performer known for grounded, practical action filmmaking. After working in stunts and fight choreography, he moved into writing and directing, often collaborating with Scott Adkins on Accident Man, Avengement, and The Debt Collector series. His additional credits include Triple Threat, Savage Dog, Hell Hath No Fury, and the upcoming film Above and Below starring Antonio Banderas. His work is recognized for character-driven storytelling and clear, physically authentic action.
I must confess that one of the best things about running this site is being able to watch action films early and with that I can say that Mexicali is truly a top contender for best action film 0f 2026. My official review for the movie will not hit until next week but I can honestly say that Foster is one of action cinema’s hidden gems and this movie along with the other pics he has coming in Beast and Relentless better cement him as a force of nature in the genre. His onscreen presence is no holds barred and movie fans, both hardcore action and mainstream, need to take note because he has officially arrived. It delivers everything fans could want and hope for and it’s relentless (pun intended) in its execution with hardcore action, visceral beatdowns and brutal, unflinching violence while implementing heartfelt emotion and dynamics. More on that later though. For now, share the trailer and tell a friend to check out Mexicali when it hits next week.
