Magnolia Pictures has finally given us our first look at Nobody and Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk’s off the wall action-thriller. Titled Normal, this new trailer is anything but and it contains just the right vibe of what we can expect from the movie that looks to defy just what action and a healthy blast of dark humor is. Check out the new footage below and watch Odenkirk continue his reign as one of the best action stars today!
“The latest collaboration between Bob Odenkirk, JOHN WICK creator Derek Kolstad and NOBODY producer Marc Provissiero, director Ben Wheatley’s (FREE FIRE, HIGH RISE) kinetic neo-Western stars Odenkirk as an unassuming substitute sheriff with a troubled past who, after moving to a small, sleepy town, responds to a bank robbery and unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive.
For Sheriff Ulysses (Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.”
The Nobody films have cemented that people want to see an everyman like Odenkirk go kinetic and ballistic in action films although the latter failed to do any damage at the box office. It’s a mystery to me as to why it failed to connect but hopefully Odenkirk will still give action a try as he nails the target just like he did with more comedic roles like his hit series Better Call Saul. Henry Winkler and Lena Headey headline the top tier ensemble.
Normal looks like a fever dream fueled action extravaganza and Odenkirk looks sensational once again as the vibe looks utter batshit crazy in the best way possible. There’s enough carnage and blood-soaked mayhem to be had in the trailer alone so hopefully the whole movie resonates it when it hits. Hailing from John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad is always a bullet shredding plus so action faithful should be all in for the chaos to commence.
Normal blasts its way into theaters on April 17!
