What if I told you that there was a full-throttle, kick ass, jaw dropping new martial arts action pic and it didn’t hail from Japan, China, Indonesia or even Korea? The movie in question is called The Forbidden City, and it comes to us from the wonderful and sunny land of Italy. That’s right action afficionados, Italy has supplied us with a genre bending new actioner that looks polished, brutal and immersive and one would think that it was crafted in one of the more known countries for importing action.
Well Go USA has just dropped the new trailer, poster and stills for the film which features breakout star Yaxi Liu who was featured in Disney’s live action Mulan remake. Judging from the supplied footage, I feel that no one would have argued if Miss Liu starred in that movie as she radiates a bone crunching and commanding performance punctuated with showstopping action design that rivals anything you will see from the usual suspects of action cinema territories. SYNOPSIS:
From Gabriele Mainetti, director of They Call Me Jeeg Robot and Freaks Out, comes the action-packed tale of two strangers seeking the truth and vengeance. Mei arrives in Rome looking for her missing sister and, along the way, meets Marcello, who is desperate to find his father. Together, they will fight their way through the Roman underworld. The film was an official selection of the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival and Fantastic Fest.
