Alan Ritchson is definitely one of the hottest stars in Hollywood right now and the Reacher actor can pretty much punch his own ticket when it comes to choosing roles. It bodes well that Ritchson is accepting the fact that he is one of today’s most prolific action stars after starring in Prime’s runaway hit Reacher and with news of his latest upcoming film, Ritchson is going full on frogman. Big props to my action brother from another mother That Phat Samurai Guy for putting this one on my radar!
According to Deadline, Ritchson is set to team with Sylvester Stallone for an as of yet untitled Navy SEAL war film from director Patrick Hughes (Expendables 3). The Reacher star will play real life Navy SEAL Mike Thornton for Amazon MGM’s upcoming Vietnam era thriller. This film will be a part of Ritchson’s three picture deal with the studio that also includes the Christmas themed action pic The Man with the Bag in which he’s starring alongside Hollywood and action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Ritchson is reuniting with Hughes who also directed the star in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi military war action film War Machine. Before you all get excited, Sly will be behind the camera on this one as producer via his Balboa productions banner along with Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young. Ritchson is also producing as well per his AllyCat Entertainment with Alan Rautbort. The script was penned by Mark Semos, Ritchson, and Jason Hall (American Sniper; Thank You For Your Service).
According to Deadline:
The film will follow NAVY Seal Mike Thornton during the final days of the Vietnam War as he leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight through relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. With both a gravely wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier tied to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an act of valor that earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Along with filming the fourth season of Reacher, Ritchson is also starring in the period action-thriller Motor City which only has four lines of dialogue. That film also stars Shailene Woodley and Ben Foster. He is also set to reprise his role in the 11th Universal Pictures’ Fast and Furious film.
Lock and load for more to come!
