Who would have known that 2019’s Beyond the Law would be the last film output that action legend Steven Seagal would be making but here we are six years later and there had been no word from the Aikido master and resident martial arts action star who rose to prominence in the late 80’s during the heyday of big budget actioners on the big screen. Seagal has been living in DTV action for most of the last few decades and everyone had thought that he had retired without initially announcing the fact. There has been some rumblings of other future projects but it has been radio silent from Seagal ever since.
Well, reports of Seagal’s film demise have been greatly exaggerated as he is set to return for the new martial arts actioner Order of the Dragon which also stars acclaimed film fighter Ron Smoorenburg who has been seen in multiple action films like Triple Threat and the recent Bangkok Dog.
Smoorenburh reached out to me over the weekend and served up some juicy intel on his upcoming venture with Seagal. Smoorenburg describes Order of the Dragon as “a real martial arts movie” that will showcase some pretty elite talent in the business including Tong Po himself Michel Qissi. Check out the press release from Vjekoslav Katusin who will be producing and directing the feature below!

We are thrilled to announce that action legend Steven Seagal is making his grand return to cinema after a six-year hiatus! Our production company, Dream Team Pictures, based in Croatia, and the German production company Filmworkers, is currently gearing up for the film “Order of the Dragon,” set to begin shooting in mid-September 2025 in Belgrade, Serbia. Under the skilled direction of renowned Croatian filmmaker and producer Vjekoslav Katusin, Seagal will once again step back into the spotlight.
Joining him in this exciting project is Dutch martial arts expert and actor Ron Smoorenburg, who will take on a leading role alongside Seagal. Ron Smoorenburg was discovered in 1997 by Jackie Chan and learned screenfighting the hard way from the master himself during the final rooftop fight in ‘Who am I?’ Ron gained experience by fighting with many of the action stars we know today and eventually created ‘Recharge’. His unique fighting style based on the love of the art and to give something back to the martial arts world.
The cast will also feature familiar faces such as Michael Pare, Michael Qissi, and German Playmate Alona Hertha, adding to the star-studded lineup. To complete the cast we will bring 2 more absolute martial art killers, who we will announce soon to keep the real martial art level in the movie as high as possible. We aim to bring back the motivation of the 80’s, early 90’s combined with a new style.

As we prepare for this thrilling journey, we are excited to share exclusive first images of Steven Seagal on set, well ahead of any official release details. Throughout the filming process, we promise to keep you updated with the latest information, including insights into additional cast members and behind-the-scenes glimpses that will give fans an intimate look at the making of this action-packed film.
We are confident that this collaboration will yield fantastic stories and captivating visuals that will engage your readers and rekindle their enthusiasm for the genre.
Thank you for the opportunity to share this exhilarating news, and we look forward to working together on this exciting project!
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this project and to what capacity Seagal will be involved with, but it certainly has piqued the interest of myself and my fellow action film bloggers. Having heavyweight genre talent like Michel Qissi and Michael Pare definitely solidifies some street cred to this so it will be interesting to see this all play out and above all see Seagal on the screen once again. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that he is action cinema royalty.
All I can say now is Lock N Load and check back here for future intel on Seagal, Smoorenburg and Order of the Dragon!
