Well, we just had Viola Davis stepping up for the free world as a U.S. President taking on terrorists and now John Cena is following suit. Yes, that John Cena who stars alongside Idris Elba in Amazon Prine’s new action-comedy Heads of State. Elba stars as UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke alongside Cena’s U.S. President Will Derringer who must set aside their differences when a foreign enemy attacks. Thankfully they have a hot MI6 agent in Priyanka Chopra Jonas to cover their six. I was worried about that. Check out the new footage, key art and images below!
In the action-comedy Heads of State, the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries’ “special relationship.” But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary—who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces—they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Ultimately allied with the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world. The film also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid and Sarah Niles and is directed by Ilya Naishuller.

The Boys and Novocaine star Jack Quaid also headlines the cast as the duo’s armorer who gets in on the action and hijinks with additional cast members including Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle and Paddy Considine. Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry and Nobody) helms the pic which does bode well for the set pieces. Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec and Harrison Query penned the script which sees Marcus Viscidi, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec serving as executive producers along with Cena and Elba.

Heads of State looks like a fun actioner with plenty of wit and full-on chemistry between the two stars. Heads of State looks to combine fast–paced action sequences and stellar practical stunts with a heaping dose of 80’s and 90’s nostalgia that resonates what we all loved about buddy action comedies like Lethal Weapon and Tango & Cash back in the day. This film also reunites Elba and Cena who co-starred with each other in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad so hopefully they come to terms and a resolution before they try to kill each other this time around.
