Jason Statham is set to take on a human trafficking ring in his lates knuckle infused thriller A Working Man, but the action star is off and running with his next project which will see him team up with one of Gerard Butler’s favorite go to directors. The new action film Statham is currently working on does not have a title, but it is being directed by Ric Roman Waugh who worked with Butler on Angel has Fallen as well as the Greenland movies. Fun fact, Waugh is the brother to Scott Waugh who directed the much maligned fourth Expendables movie which saw Statham take the lead from Stallone.
In terms of plot, it is still not known but it is said to have Statham “play a man pulled back towards the ghosts of his violent past.” Pretty much sounds like the blueprint to all of Statham’s action films and that is just fine with me as the action star excels in all of them and constantly delivers. The script for the film was penned by Ward Parry with Christian Contreras taking over for some revisions.
The movie is said to be in production in the Uk and Ireland courtesy of Blackbear. Statham’s latest did make the rounds at the Cannes Film Market and I’m sure distribution will be a success on this one. We don’t have a title, but we do have a supporting cast with Statham starring along with Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet), Oscar nominee Bill Nighy (Living), BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), and BAFTA nominee Daniel Mays (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) bringing up the rear.
Statham is also producing the movie via his Punch Palace Productions banner along with John Friedberg (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) courtesy of Black Bear. Brendon Boyea (Kandahar) through Cinemachine, and Jon Berg (Wonder Woman) along past WB executive Greg Silverman are also producing per Stampede Ventures. Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler are serving as executive producers.
