There are certain absolutes in life. Death. Taxes. And let us not forget that Ving Rhames is one bad ass motherf**ker who delivers the gravitas and iconic stoicism in all of his movies. Rhames is one of those actors in cinema that has quietly crafted one hell of a career in films like the original boxing pic Undisputed in which he starred as the punishing boxing champ turn con “Iceman” Chambers as well as the blockbuster Mission: Impossible franchise alongside Tom Cruise.
Rhames is back and he’s training Luise Grossmann, AKA Luiii, for the upcoming boxing pic Uppercut which is set to center the ring this February from Lionsgate. A devastating new trailer, key art and images accompany the announcement so scroll below to watch all the in-ring action!
SYNOPSIS
Golden Globe® winner Ving Rhames and Luise Grossmann star in an electrifying film about Toni, a determined female boxer, trying to break down barriers as she redefines what it means to be a woman in today’s world. When Elliott (Rhames), a tough ex-boxing champion, accepts the challenge to train Toni (Grossmann), the two mismatched characters form an unlikely alliance. Their sparring and Elliott’s keen insights show the resilient young fighter that real strength comes from the challenges you overcome when life throws its biggest punches your way.

Torsten Ruether writes and directs with a supporting cast that includes Jordan E. Cooper, and Joanna Cassidy. This one definitely is taking its cues from Clint Eastwood’s boxing masterpiece Million Dollar Baby so let’s hope that Luiii’s fate is a better one then how that movie ended. It also is resonating Rocky vibes so this has crowd pleasing all over it.
