Brand new trailers for you today and one is definitely more intriguing then the other as we have The Amateur starring Rami Malek and Jon Bernthal as well as the usual suspect action-comedy Back in Action which is Jamie Foxx’s first film since his highly publicized illness. Cameron Diaz joins him so let’s go trailer tactical and scroll below for new footage and my thoughts!
Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.

Malek leads an all-star cast including Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and the one and only Laurence Fishburne. James Hawes (Raised by Wolves, Penny Dreadful, Slow Horses) helms from a script by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli based on the novel by Robert Littell.
This one is intriguing as Malek stars as an introverted CIA agent that has no tactical experience whatsoever so when his wife is killed, he must use the skills he does possess to gain his revenge. This is a real turning the whole revenge plot on its head so it’ll certainly be interesting. I’m interested to see how much Bernthal adds to it as he’s only seen once in the trailer but Fishburne always elevates anything so this one is on my radar as a must see for 2025.
The Amateur hits theaters next year on April 11th!
Now we have the action-comedy Back in Action which looks like usual standard fair that we haven’t seen before. The movie does have the strength in its two strong leads with Foxx making his movie debut since he essentially almost died and Diaz had essentially quit acting.l but now they’re both…well…back in action so the title is extremely fitting.
Synopsis: Years after giving up life in the CIA to start a family, two former spies are dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.

Aside from Foxx and Cameron, this looks like a time waster at best but could offer some entertainment viewing. This film will essentially live or die by chemistry the two stars have each other. This looks like more disposable Netflix fluff, but it could exceed expectations so that’ll be up to subscribers.
