Catching up on some ultra cool news from last week as I’ve been out of the loop moving and working and dealing with 100 other things, word has come down from 20th Century Films that a top secret, hush hush Predator movie is set to hit before Badlands debuts next year. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg is overseeing this one as well as he also directed the upcoming Predator film Badlands.
According to the reports, 20th Century Films head Steve Asbell stated that there used to be indeed a secret Predator movie in the works with Trachtenberg helming as well.
Asbell was quoted as saying, “After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool,” Asbell said. “We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”
Asbell couldn’t divulge any new Intel on Badlands besides the fact that Fanning is starring in it but he did say that it will be something fans haven’t seen before. It is also unclear if the newly mentioned film will be a theatrical or streaming release.
There is also talk of a new Aliens vs Predator film but Asbell has said that they aren’t there yet and that one will be in the not so soon future.
While writing this article, new rumors have come out that the planned secret Predator project might be an animated anthology which would be something distinctively cool and different. Maybe a section where Arnie reprises his character of Dutch and lends his voice to a pseudo sequel of sorts? Just saying.
Anyway, Predator: Badlands does have a theatrical release date set for November 7th, 2025 so expect more release news and Intel to drop on the secret project anytime.
