New action cinema news to report today as I continue to move into my new establishment with the announcement that Reacher star Alan Ritchson is set to star along with Prey’s Amber Midthunder for s new actioner titled Painter. To further cement the news and to excite fans, it’s also being reported that John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad is writing and former stuntman Garrett Warren is helming.
Per Deadline, Painter will focus on Midthunder who is “a young woman, trained from a young age, who must employ every skill in her arsenal to rescue her father after he is kidnapped.”
Midthunder’s leading role is established but Ritchson’s involvement is too secret at the moment. It’s either going to be Midthunder joining up with him to do battle with the nefarious forces or the Reacher star could serve as a very formidable opponent for the riding action star.
Painter will be the directorial debut of Warren who is best known for putting his body on the line in such films as Logan, Avatar, Alita: Battle Angel, and the recent reimagining of Road House. This continues the exceptional trend of stunt professionals transitioning into filmmaking as they have a talent of how to make adrenaline look good for the audience.
Ritchson is also set to star in the action thriller Runner which will be helmed by Need for Speed and Expendables 4 Director Scott Waugh. It’s being stated that he will film this movie first so it’s unclear when Painter will go into production but the latter is ready to commence sales and is set up at FilmNation Entertainment‘s production banner label Infrared, which will execute distribution sales at the upcoming American Film Market in Las Vegas.
