First, he lost his voice and didn’t say a word in John Woo’s urban actioner Silent Night and now star Joel Kinnaman is about to lose another sense in the bullet laced action-thriller The Silent Hour. Kinnaman stars as a cop who gradually loses his hearing when an accident on the job damages his ear canals. There are no worries though as Kinnaman’s skill set is still perfectly intact as he scrambles to take down a criminal element ruled by co-star Mekhi Phifer. Check out the new trailer and images for the latest cop thriller from director Brad Anderson (Session 9).
Boston Detective Frank Shaw (Joel Kinnaman) returns to duty after a career-altering injury leaves him with permanent hearing loss. Tasked with interpreting for Ava Fremont (Sandra Mae Frank), a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, they find themselves cornered in a soon-to-be-condemned apartment building when the killers return to eliminate her. Cut off from the outside world, these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive.

There’s a definite Die Hard vibe with a twist here once again as Kinnaman’s Frank Shaw and his deaf witness Ava (Sandra Mae Frank) are besieged in a condemned apartment building by Phifer and his crew. Damaged heroes are a thing now in action cinema, but I feel this one adds a layer of dramatic theatrics to the proceedings along with in-your-face action sequences and stunts. Kinnaman is another one who is steadily rising in the ranks of action star and here’s another notch in his filmography arsenal.

The always game Mark Strong also stars in the film giving this one a stacked cast.
