Alright Mark and Halle, Jessica dropped the ball so you’re up! No pressure but with the results of Netflix original movies the way they are, it’s getting to the point where having Netflix attached to a film will be like the plague.
Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry definitely bring the star power to Netflix’s next action-comedy offering titled The Union (the generic name already puts a hindering on it). Berry and Wahlberg play onetime sweethearts as the former gets the latter involved in the high stakes world of spies. Indulge in the new trailer below!
Mike (Mark Wahlberg), a construction worker from Jersey, is quickly thrust into the world of super spies and secret agents when his high school sweetheart, Roxanne (Halle Berry), suddenly comes back into his life and recruits him on a high-stakes U.S. intelligence mission.

The trailer looks promising enough, but I can’t help but think about a similar film called Ghosted which had him headlining next to another Hollywood starlet in the form of Ana de Armis. That film and The Union have equally similar takes on this subgenre with the everyday man being taken for a thrill ride courtesy of the hot spy he is seeing. This one looks fun, but we all know that trailers don’t necessarily show us how good or bad something is. Jessica Alba’s Trigger Warning looked a little promising from its promo, but the finished product left me wanting more. A lot more. Unless the movie has Extraction in the title, Netflix’s action cinema output has misfired more times than not, but we shall see with this one.
Julian Farino helms the pic that features a pretty solid and substantial cast that includes one of my favorites in Mike Colter (Luke Cage), along with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Jessica De Gouw (The Secrets She Keeps), Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), the always game Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos), and J. Jonah Jameson himself J.K. Simmons (Whiplash).
