Having premiered in December of last year and this past April, Zack Snyder’s ambitious Star Wars inspired sci-fi epic Rebel Moon was met with the usual love it or hate it fandom from audiences worldwide. Those who loathe Snyder took their typical shots at the filmmaker while some fans, like me, enjoyed the bombastic theater like experience of the adrenaline laced sci-fi actioner. Were there flaws to both chapters? Of course, there was and if you were not a fan of Snyder to begin with, then Rebel Monn was not the project to win you over as the usual Snyder tropes were in play like excessive noise, headache inducing visuals and overuse of slo-mo in the films’ many set pieces. Even with the usual flair of negativity, I had fun with them and thought that Sofia Boutella kicked ass in the lead role of Kora, a warrior with a past looking for retribution and saving grace.
As much as I liked the films, my biggest gripe was that there was something definitely missing from them as I, like everyone else, knew that Snyder would be releasing his definitive version of the movies with his special director’s cuts. I couldn’t help but notice where all the graphic violence would have been displayed in the action sequences and a lot of it felt rushed.

Well, fear not because Snyder has unveiled that the director’s cuts are indeed dropping this summer and they will hit Netflix on August 2nd. To go along with the meatier and lengthier cuts, fans will get more sex and violence along with several added scenes to both movies and they will also sport new titles as well. The first entry will now be called Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood while the finale will be known as Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Why the name changes? Well Snyder was never known to do anything half ass so with these newer versions, Snyder looks to reinvent them along with what they’re called. Check out Snyder’s social media post below!
Delve further into the mythology and madness of Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi saga in the viciously sexier, bloodier world of Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival,” Netflix’s official synopsis reads. “Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.

Boutella stars alongside an impressive international ensemble cast including Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and the iconic Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy. Rebel Moon was, of course, helmed by Snyder from scripts that he also co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. Snyder is also a producer with Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman, and Wesley Coller. Hatten and Johnstad also served as executive producers with Bergen Swanson and Sarah Bowen.
As for me, I could care less about the sexiness added but I will be excited to see the newly altered action set pieces in all their bloody carnage. I only reviewed the second part (which you can read here) along with a snippet of the first film so it will be cool to review them once again chatting up if they are better or not then the standard cuts. Stay tuned and lock n load right here for more brutal, sexy and bloody Rebel Moon to come!
