Netflix’s newest thriller Under Paris features one of earth’s deadliest aquatic predators threatening France and a World triathlon tournament at the same time because why the hell not. This one looks to throw in a bevy of victims for the bloody carnage so dial me in. It seems that the zombie genre has given way to the shark infested thriller as of late as it seems that a new shark thriller attacks DVD or streaming every week. My 16-year-old daughter and myself love to watch them all (especially the bad ones) so this one’s for you Sam!
Official Synopsis: In order to save Paris from an international bloodbath, a grieving scientist is forced to face her tragic past when a giant shark appears in the Seine.
We have to thank director Xavier Gens of Mayhem, Farang and Gangs of New York for this latest offering with some major bite and the final girl for this one is actress Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) who stars as a scientist who discovers the unpleasant visitor under the water which forces her to unite with an activist and police commander to take on the unwanted tourist to Paris. Nassim Lyes, who also starred in Gens’ Farang also stars. Bejo is an Academy award nominee so that tells you that the acting here is going to be above what we normally get from these types of films. Plus, her character has a history with the predator so let the water-soaked chaotic crescendo commence!
I’m always game to see unsuspecting humans get gobbled up by sharks and at least this one doesn’t have a jet ski as a major part of the plot and the visuals look above average. Who cares…it’s a shark eating people so grab some popcorn, soda and get cozy because you know you’ll be safe while the ones on the screen won’t be. Serves them right for entering a Triathlon when a killer shark attacks. Quick! Get a bigger boat!!!!
