Last week was certainly one for the ages when it comes to action cinema news with announcements of a live action R-Rated Ninja Turtles film and a GI JOE/Transformers crossover. CinemaCon 2024 brought the heat and then some but here we are as the dust has settled and there are a few other noteworthy news items to showcase as we start a new week. Jock up and scroll below for more Weekly Intel including Glen Powell taking on The Running Man and the return of Godzilla to the small screen!!
Glen Powell Centers the Ring for a Newer RUNING MAN!

Ever since Top Gun: Maverick, actor Glen Powell’s stock has certainly been rising and he is definitely one of the hottest stars working right now. He recently starred in the hit Rom-Com Anyone but You along with the equally hot Sydney Sweeney and will also be seen in this summer’s Twisters.
Powell is next to enlist for a newer version of director Edgar Wright‘s The Running Man, where he will take on the role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action-thriller hit with fans. The story of a most dangerous game played in a dystopian future comes from horror icon author Stephen King who penned the story under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman.
This version is said to be truer to the source material where the game is played out over the country and won’t be like the WWE vibe set forth in Arnie’s version. Wright is best known for helming Shaun of the Dead which was a satiric take on the zombie genre. The announcement was made at CinemaCon.
Apple+ Renews Monarch: Legacy of Monsters & Announces Additional Spin-Offs

Fresh of the hit blockbuster Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Apple+ made it official that a second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to stomp our way in the future. Kurt Russell starred along with his real-life son Wyatt along with Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, John Goodman, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski but there is no word if any cast members will be returning from the first season or what the synopsis will entail.
The 2nd season renewal comes with word that there are also more planned Apple+ MonsterVerse spin-offs set to come as well. There is no word on what those spin-offs will be so we will have to wait but at least we know we are getting more Kaiju/Titan stomping action on the small screen!
“‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+. “We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.” Per Variety
