Many GI Joe fans out there credit Hollywood actor and star Henry Golding personally responsible for killing the theatrical version of the Hasbro toy property on the big screen and I feel that’s a little harsh as he was but merely the actor in the film and he did give it his all. After all, it was a creative team effort that sunk Snake Eyes: GI JOE Origins including writers Evan Spiliotopoulos, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse and director Robert Schwentke. Even with all its faults, I still enjoyed the film as a life long Joe and Snake Eyes fan and felt a sequel would have righted the ship. Why would you not have him wear the suit for any of the film’s action sequences? I know it was an origin story but to only see him decked out for a minute or so at the end was a slap in the face to fans everywhere.
Fast forward to the post credits scene of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts where fans went crazy when a crossover was teased between the giant robots who change their form and America’s real heroes. The two IPs have faced each other in the pages of the comic books so this makes sense to get fans excited. Unfortunately, nothing has transpired since that film came out a few years ago but there is some fuel being thrown onto the rumor fire and it’s being started by…well…Henry Golding of all people.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Golding made some cryptic albeit surprising comments in relation to GI Joe and that Paramount Pictures has some grand plans for the elite soldiers in the future. Now why is Golding revealing this Intel? Your guess is as good as mine as I’m pretty sure he has nothing to do with GI Joe anymore but check out his comments below.
“I mean, Lorenzo di Bonaventura is a busy man and a phenomenal producer, and it’s in safe hands,” Golding said. “Whatever happens, I think it’s going to be a combination of what has come and what is to come. I think Paramount have some grand, grand plans.”

Say whaaaaaat? For the love of God, that’s the dumbest and most ludicrous quote I’ve ever read and it tells us less than nothing. He’s basically saying, “yeah, I have no idea what’s going on.” I mean what has come and what is to come. Why not just say I’m not in the loop on that subject. It would sound a whole less idiotic. But what the hell do I know.
It’s no secret that the GI JOE property has not transferred onto the big screen with the same success as Transformers and the Snake Eyes movie was a colossal 100 steps backwards for the future. Anyway you look at it, they are going to have to come up with a grand slam or they might just DOA our favorite Real American Heroes for good.
I did an audio Action Fix Podcast last year where I gave my thoughts on the state of a live action GI Joe adaptation and basically what they should do to fix what’s wrong and have it flourish in the future. Take a listen below as this die hard Joe fan keeps it real and shoots from the hip on how we can actually get a decent live action adaptation. From animation to doing a streaming series, there are ways to salvage GI Joe.
Another GI Joe movie titled G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, which was to be a full blown ensemble character film, has been locked in development hell for a few years now and there was word at one time that this was to be the sequel to Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins. Alas, nothing has evolved on this one or the Transformers crossover yet but, hey, Henry Golding knows what’s up.
Lock N Load right here for any and all future GI Joe movie Intel as we are your ultimate destination for your ACTION FIX!!!!
