I’m going to go down fighting on this one as I am Team Jake and am actually looking forward to the reimagining of Road House from Amazon MGM. I’ve said it before, but it goes with saying again that you can love the original cult classic with Patrick Swayze and still like this newer version for what it is. Notice and I strongly say, NOTICE, that I said you could still like this new film. Of course, Jake’s version isn’t going to come close to the love I have for Swayze’s Dalton, but it still looks like a hell of a lot of fun and it’s OK to enjoy this one if you do. There’s no need to join a support group or anything as it’s simply OK to like a reboot or reimagining. The initial trailer looked locked and loaded with some sensational action and Gyllenhaal looked to be channeling his best efforts and showing respect to the late, great Patrick Swayze.
Anyway, on to this article. Total Film has just unveiled some adrenaline pumping new images from the movie which showcases both Gyllenhaal and his opponent, UFC bad boy Conor McGregor locked in heated battle as well as some other shots of both stars taken from the film. One thing’s for certain and this new take on a guilty pleasure of epic proportions will definitely bring the violence as it didn’t cop out for a family friendly PG-13 rating. It’s going to bring the heat when it comes to the action and I’m curious to no end to see how the MMA infused style of this one plays on the more traditional martial arts and bar brawling aesthetic of Swayze’s pic. Sue me for saying all this but I really don’t care at this point.
The biggest flaw I see right now is that this one should have played in theaters. This has been a source of negative publicity for the movie with Liman and other’s being quite vocal about it.
