Love it or hate it, I’m still on the fence, but the Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal is on the way in 2024. The argument has been made by loyalists that this is one movie that didn’t ask for a redo but like it or not, it’s done and ready to deliver double fisted damage.
Aside from some images of jacked up Gyllenhaal and video footage of a weigh in that was shot during a live UFC event, we haven’t had much in the way of any proof as to whether this was going to be good or bad. Having Gyllenhaal star and having The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow‘s Doug Liman helm certainly does weigh in the positives but Patrick Swayze’s guilty pleasure cult classic is such loved by fans (me included) that this one will have to be phenomenal on all levels for true die hards to accept.
Well, it’s not a trailer yet but Amazon Prime has served up a tease (which is an understatement) of Gyllenhaal in action as they have released a trailer for their 2024 releases. Check out the video and a jacked Gyllenhaal below! Don’t Blink.
Like I said, it’s a tease of epic proportions and all we see is Gyllenhaal centering what appears to be a nefarious, underground MMA cage followed by a brief fight scene where he states, “Oo, I just slapped you, are you alright?” before he efficiently and mercilessly pummels assailants with some impressive lightning fast combos. It definitely looks bone crunching and with news that it’ll respect the original and be rated R, this might just work. I know, I was in the hate it bandwagon when it was first announced but like I always say, I reserve judgement until I see first look footage.
If your interested, the video also showcases looks at from Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, as well as first looks at Reacher, The Boys, Fallout, and the movie Ricky Stanicky, which is a new fantasy-comedy courtesy of Peter Farrelly starring Zac Efron and John Cena.
Road House also stars Daniela Melchior (Fast X, No Time to Die) as well as MMA bad boy and champion Conor McGegor who will serve as the main antagonist for Gylenhaal. I’m anticipating a pretty good scrap between the two so we will see how it fares when compared to Swayze’s dust up with Marshall Teague.
A trailer will probably hit sometime in early 2024 so Lock N Load, or strap on the fighting gloves for more to come fight fans.
