This news is a few days old, but I missed posting it as things are hectic, so I thought I’d share it along with my thoughts. We finally seem to be getting some serious traction on the long in development Crow reboot which has gone through several changes throughout the years as its changed directors and stars on its long path to being made. Some say we don’t need a reboot as Brandon Lee’s iconic and final role is the stuff of legends but alas it is finally happening. It, Boy Kills World and John Wick Chapter 4 star Bill Skarsgård will play the iconic role of Eric Draven with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) helming the project. Musician FKA twigs (Honey Boy, The King’s Man) is also set to star in the movie which was just acquired by Lionsgate in a whopping 8 figure deal.

Brandon Lee’s Performance in the Original 1994 Cult Classic will be hard to Top.
The deal was done during the Toronto International Film Festival so the reboot, whether you want one or not, is on its way. At one time Jason Momoa was set to take on the movie but things fell apart after several delays forcing the actor and others to move on to other projects. Personally, I was one who wanted to see Momoa’s take on it as he is drastically different both physically and dramatically from Lee but now Skarsgård is ready to be resurrected to avenge his death as well as the love as his life. I hear good things action wise from Skarsgård in Boy Kills World so hopefully he will be solid in the movie’s high-octane moments. We all know what he can do drama wise so that’s a given.

Bill Skarsgård in Boy Kills World
The Crow with Brandon Lee is essential cinema for genre fans but the three follow ups after were nothing to remember with the last one starring David Boreanaz being the worse of them. I almost stopped watching that one but stuck with it only to verify that it was indeed garbage. Hopefully they have learned from these major misfires and will deliver a movie worthy of the graphic novel both in scope and caliber.
The original film and reboot are based on the successful comic book series that was created, written, and drwan by James O’Barr, The Crow tells the supernatural story of Eric Draven, who is a tortured soul that is resurrected exactly one year by a crow after he is murdered and his wife, Shelly Webster, was brutally raped and killed as well. Now back from the dead, Draven uses his newly acquired supernatural powers given to him by the crow to exact ruthless vengeance on the band of ruthless criminals that were responsible for his pain and torment. The original 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee was helmed by Alex Proyas and it also starred Michael Wincott, Rochell Davis, Ernie Hudson, David Patrick Kelly, and Bai Ling.
The reboot has already been shot in Prague and Munich and starring are Laura Birn (Void, A Walk Among the Tombstones), Sami Bouajila (The Siege, Days of Glory), and Jordan Bolger (Tom and Jerry, The Woman King).
It’s going to be hard to top the 1994 movie as it is literally haunting due to Lee’s untimely death while filming it so that has delivered an incredible aesthetic on the movie that has lasted in the hearts of fans such as myself. I am intrigued to see what they do with it and I’m sure it will be far better than the awful sequels that followed.
Lock N Load right here as I’m sure we will be getting first look footage along with a release date very soon now that Lionsgate has picked it up for domestic distribution.
