I have some sad news to pass off to you today as Denzel Washington has confirmed, via an interview with Empire, that The Equalizer 3 will officially be Robert McCall’s official swan song. Pause for dramatic effect…
It’s hard to believe but The Equalizer series has been the only franchise for the Oscar winning superstar. Let me tell you that if that’s the case then it’s one of the best. Washington has proven that age is only a number as both previous outings have featured the actor, best known for drama, as a bona fide action star. Washington has crushed the set pieces and his CQB skills were unrivaled.
In the interview, Washington stated:
“I don’t want to say he’s found happiness, and I don’t want to give it all away, but he meets someone lovely, he’s in a lovely town, and he seems to be at peace. That seems to be a good place to stop. I didn’t know that there were going to be three. Definitely didn’t know that when we did the first one. I didn’t know how it would end.”
It seems like McCall’s ending will be a sweet one although bittersweet for fans but I think that’s a good way to end things. Nothing like spoiler alerts though.

Director Antoine Fuqua, who has directed all three films, weighed in on what to expect as well and that there has to come a time to put the story to rest.
“This is it. Robert McCall, the working-man hero, at some point he’s got to walk away from it. At some point someone else has to pick up the ball and serve justice. He’s served his justice. He’s in a foreign place, he’s trying to find a home, find a place in the world. That’s really what’s important.”
The third entry sees McCall, who is an ex-spec ops agent turned vigilante and hero of the people going international. His tranquil life is interrupted once again when nefarious forces threaten innocent lives. Dakota Fanning, who starred with Washington in Man on Fire when she was a child, also stars.
The official synopsis reads: Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
Expect more punishment and retribution from our anti-hero who gives new meaning to the phrase “terminate with extreme prejudice.”
The Equalizer 3 is set to open on September 1st so hopefully it will still hit that date with everything that is going on in Hollywood.
