Action Icon Dolph Lundgren Reveals His Secret Battle with Cancer

If you ever had any doubt that action icon Dolph Lundgren is just as tough in real life then he is in his action films, here’s a true story that was just revealed and it comes as an utter shock because our heroes aren’t allowed to get sick.

Turns out Lundgren has secretly been battling lung cancer for over eight years and at one point he was given a terminal diagnosis. Lundgren made the alarming announcement during a nationally syndicated interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, while on the show, Lundgren stated that he has been battling lung cancer since 2015 when he was diagnosed. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all this.

Lundgren’s cancer has gone into remission but came back ferociously in 2020 where he was given 2 to 3 years to live. Doctors had found tumors in his lungs, spine, and kidneys and Dolph essentially made peace with the bleak diagnosis and he was thinking he would die soon.

Fortunately for Lundgren, his family and friends and his legions of fans, Lundgren sought out another opinion and has worked with Dr. Alexandra Drakaki and has shrunk the tumors. Lundgren has been very vocal staring that he has used steroids in the past and that they might be a direct cause to his illness.

Hopefully, Lundgren has beaten this a second time and isn’t slowing down due to it as he’s set to star in the upcoming films Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Expendables 4, Come Out Fighting, and Wanted Man. He’s also the subject of a documentary called I Must Break You which chronicles his rise to action film stardom as well as shedding light on his personal life. Andrew Holmes helms the doc and also scripted it with Hollywood icons Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jean-Claude Van Damme set to appear in the upcoming documentary.

I actually got the chance to speak with Lundgren when he was promoting his directorial effort Castle Falls with Scott Adkins. It was an honor to speak with him as I’ve been a fan since the beginning. Check it out below!

We here at Action-Flix want to wish Dolph all the best and a long, healthy life ahead of him. After all, if there’s anyone who can terminate cancer, it’s The Punisher!
