Vengeance is finally coming and he’s looking DYNAMITE! It’s been so long since Michael Jai White’s passion project The Outlaw Johnny Black was announced that I had a bad feeling that we wouldn’t see the film ever. The movie, which did have a very successful crowdfunding campaign has been riding around for years but my fears have most assuredly been out to rest as a release date and new trailer has risen giving fans of the action star cause for much celebration. Check out the footage and details below Michael Jai White is finally saddling up for comedy, go for broke action and six barrel justice courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films!
From director and star Michael Jai White comes THE OUTLAW JOHNNY BLACK. Hell bent on avenging the death of his father, Johnny Black vows to gun down Brett Clayton and becomes a wanted man in the process. He goes into hiding, posing as a preacher in a small mining town that’s been taken over by a notorious Land Baron.

White helms the pic and wrote the script along with Black Dynamite scribe Byron Minns so this one has the same tone as the homage to 70’s “blaxploitation” did. The Outlaw Johnny Black at one time was conceived as a pseudo sequel of sorts but is now known as a self appointed “spiritual successor” to the 2009 flick. White will most assuredly be bringing his particular set of lethal skills, both action and comedic, to this one so genre fans will have much to like upon viewing.
White is directing for the first time since he helmed Never Back Down: No Surrender in 2016. He stars along with Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog), Erica Ash (We Have a Ghost), Byron Minns (Black Dynamite), Kym Whitley (Act Your Age), Kevin Chapman (CODA, Sneaky Pete), Glynn Turman (The Wire, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Russell Peters (The Neighborhood, Velma), and Tony Baker.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will be unleashing Michael Jai White’s assault on the senses when The Outlaw Johnny Black rides into select US theaters on September 15th, 2023.
