Snake Eyes and Sceam 6 actress Samara Weaving is set to get her female action star cred as she will star in the new action project Bella. The 87Eleven produced actioner will take place during the 80’s and from the looks of the synopsis, Weaving will continue her bad ass steak that she started as Scarlet in Snake Eyes: GI JOE Origins.
Set against the backdrop of an unprecedented crime wave that gripped New York City in the 80’s, Bella is a hyper-stylized action thriller about a cop’s daughter who, after her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s assassin and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the New York City Police Department. Per Deadline
Bella will have an 87Eleven influence to it as John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski will produce along with Craig Flores via his Bread and Circuses Entertainment banner.
Flores tells Deadline, “Bella cleverly reinvents the female-lead action genre pairing a sexy and unapologetic rock n’ roll edge with the gritty heightened realism of 80’s New York City. Collaborating with Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven whose talent is singular in bringing unparalleled action films to worldwide audiences is a dream for me, Larysa, and Samara.”
Weaving definitely has proven herself in the action department so she will most assuredly look amazing as she will have the disposable of 87Eleven Action Design behind her. Bella is one of many female centric action pics to be released and there are many more on the horizon.
I always thought that Weaving sold it in what little screen time she had as Scarlet in the failed GI Joe reboot. It’s unfortunate that she won’t play the character more in the future but at least she still has action projects coming in. Anything will Stahelski’s name attached to it is gold right now as the action director is yet again reaping the rewards of John Wick Chapter 4.
