The trailer for director Guy Ritchie’s newest endeavor The Covenant has dropped and it showcases Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier who must rely on a local interpreter to survive the harsh landscapes of Afghanistan. Check out the trailer for the unflinching war drama about survival, loyalty and undying friendship below!
“Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant follows US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim). After an ambush, Ahmed goes to Herculean lengths to save Kinley’s life. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first.”

The film boasts a spectacular cast that includes The Boys’ Antony Starr, Alexander Ludwig, Emily Beecham and Dar Salim.
Gyllenhaal made a name for himself starring in the Marine war drama Jarhead and now he returns to the genre with a powerful new film that showcases one man’s determination to pay back a debt. Ritchie is a filmmaker that doesn’t hold back and tells his stories in unusual ways so expect something different here.
The trailer without a doubt showcases Ritchie’s merging of fierce combat action, unbridled brotherhood and heartfelt grab a hanky human drama. Oh yeah, this one’s right in my wheelhouse and Ritchie is certainly demonstrating that he has a knack for helming action and Gyllenhaal is in full on action hero mode with this one.
The Covenant hits theaters on April 21st.
